Book Title: The Cake Shop in the Garden
Author: Carole Matthews
Blurb: Fay Merryweather runs her cake shop from her beautiful garden. She whips up airy sponges and scrumptious scones while her customers enjoy the lovely blossoms and gorgeous blooms. Looking after the cake shop, the garden and her cantankerous mother means Fay is always busy but she accepts her responsibilities because if she doesn’t do all this, who will?
Then Danny Wilde walks into her life and makes Fay questions every decision she’s ever made.
When a sudden tragedy strikes, Fay’s entire world is thrown off balance even further and she doesn’t know which way to turn. Can Fay find the strength to make a life-changing decision-even if it means giving up the thing she loves the most?
Review: I have read some of Carole Matthews books before and on seeing this one I was very much looking forward to reading it. The cover is beautiful. From reading the blurb I was interested in finding out if Fay could change her situation. What resonated with me is that we all have situations in our lives where we put others before ourselves or in some cases, like Fay, forget we are a person too.
Carole Matthew’s writing is exceptional. She creates lovable real life characters, I adore Stan! The setting sounds so relaxing and as Carole herself says in a note to her readers that Britain in fact does have some wonderful natural history to be proud of. I have been on a boat up rivers in our country and it is very peaceful, so I can see why Fay loves it so much.
I will not give away any spoilers, but the tragedy that befalls Fay is so well written and is such a surprise, but the surprises don’t stop at one they just keep on coming. Be prepared as the pages will keep turning and you may well be late for an appointment. I got so absorbed into Fay’s world of beautiful cakes and flowers.
Clematis from my garden.
An amazing read and recommended to all.
